Winter is the Perfect Time to Reset Your Skin
December always feels like a turning point. The holiday season is right around the corner, the days get a little drier and cooler (yes—even in Boca), and many of us finally start taking stock of how our skin is looking after a long summer in the sun.
This month is actually one of my favorite times of year for skin treatments. The weather is milder, there’s less sun exposure, and people are naturally motivated to look their best before end-of-year events. Here’s what I’m recommending most often to DermWorks™ patients right now.
Laser Season Has Officially Started
Once we get past the peak summer sun, it becomes much easier—and safer—to address pigment, texture, fine lines, and sun damage. That’s why December is such a popular laser month.
We recently added the UltraClear® cold fractional fiber laser, and the results have been beautiful. It resurfaces the skin, improves tone, softens lines, and brightens dullness with far less downtime and discomfort than older technologies. Patients love that they can get noticeable improvement without needing a week off to hide.
If you’re hoping for glowing skin by the holidays, early December is the perfect window.
Undoing Summer Skin Damage
Even people who are diligent with sunscreen usually come in this time of year with some combination of dryness, uneven tone, and dullness. A few treatments I’ve been doing a lot this month include:
Chemical Peels
Great for refreshing the skin, smoothing texture, and brightening pigment.
Microneedling
A solid option for collagen stimulation, fine lines, and acne scarring.
Hydrating Facials
A simple, no-downtime way to restore moisture and radiance if your skin looks tired.
These treatments layer beautifully with UltraClear® if you want a more comprehensive reset.
Planning Injectables Before the Holidays
By mid-December, my schedule fills quickly with patients hoping to look refreshed—but still natural—for holiday photos, parties, and family gatherings.
- Dysport/Botox: results show in about a week
- Fillers: look their best after 1–2 weeks
- Sculptra: gradual improvement over several months
Doing injectables in December gives you plenty of time to settle before holiday events.
Adjusting Your Skincare for Winter
Even small changes in humidity can affect the skin. This time of year, I often recommend:
- A gentle hydrating cleanser
- A ceramide-rich moisturizer to protect the barrier
- Vitamin C in the morning
- SPF daily (yes, even now!)
- A retinoid at night, adjusted to your tolerance
If your skin gets flaky or irritated as the seasons change, a quick regimen tweak can make a big difference.
A Great Time to Treat Melasma
Melasma tends to flare in the summer and is notoriously sensitive to heat and sun. December through March is the best treatment window. UltraClear™ has been especially helpful because it uses less heat than many lasers, which reduces the risk of worsening pigmentation.
Pairing laser treatments with the right topical regimen can make a dramatic difference.
Thoughtful Holiday Gift Ideas
Some of the most appreciated gifts are skincare-related, especially for people who “have everything.” Popular choices at DermWorks™ right now include:
- UltraClear® laser packages
- Microneedling packages
- Peel series
- Dysport/filler gift cards
- Customized skincare kits
It’s a fun and meaningful way to give someone a little confidence boost.
